Gimli Socks
This beautifully crafted sock pattern is inspired by Gimli, Son of Gloin, the beloved Dwarf and valiant member of the Fellowship as it embarked on its epic journey from Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic "The Fellowship of the Ring." Skill Level: Intermediate. This pattern presumes a basic understanding of top-down sock construction, cabling techniques, decreases, and chart reading (which is crucial for this design!).
Materials: You will need 1 set of US1.5 double-pointed needles (DPNs) or a size that achieves your desired gauge. Some of my testers successfully used the Magic Loop method along with stitch markers. Please also have a cable needle on hand, or feel free to cable without a needle—this is highly recommended! Don’t forget the tapestry needle, scissors, and a measuring tape as well.
Yarn: Approximately 400 yards of fingering weight yarn is necessary to complete this project.
Ease: The sock features a very slightly negative ease, providing a comfortable and stretchy fit.
Size & Measurements: Available in Small (64 stitches) and Large (72 stitches) sizes.
--Calf: 9(11) inches measured from cuff to heel.
--Foot: 8(9) inches measured from heel to toe.
--Gusset: Approximately 10 inches in circumference, offering a snug fit around the arch.
