Gladstone Bag
Inspired by the vibrant colors of the souk in Marrakesh, this enchanting knitted bag pattern is perfect for knitters looking to add a splash of artistry to their projects. The bag is expertly crafted flat on two needles, featuring a unique base that is worked in slip stitch stripes, creating a stunning contrast with the bag's sides. The sides of the bag are designed using a combination of intarsia, Swiss darning, and intricate two-color bead knitting, showcasing your craftsmanship and creativity. Once you complete the knitting, the bag undergoes a felting process that provides it with a sturdy and structured shape, ready for everyday use.
The front, back, and sides of the bag are then adorned with various embroidery techniques, including chain stitch, bullion knots, and Pekinese stitch. These embellishments contribute rich textures and eye-catching detail, making this bag not just a practical accessory but also a true statement piece.
Before you get started, please note that you will also need the following materials:
One pair of wide bag handles, such as the HBH004 Bag Handles, which are readily available from www.fun2do.co.uk. The original design was made using the Trendsetter Lucite Bag Handles in Brown / Black; however, these specific handles have since been discontinued, so be sure to choose a style that complements your bag.
For the bag base, you will require a piece of heavyweight card measuring 13 cm wide x 41 cm long (5 inches wide x 16 inches long). Additionally, prepare a piece of lining fabric measuring 30 cm wide x 50 cm long (11 ¾ inches wide x 19 ¾ inches long) to complete the finishing touches of your beautifully knitted bag.
