Guinea pig
If you’re a passionate knitter like many of my friends, you might have been asked to create a cozy knit replica of their beloved pets. I’m excited to share some delightful designs with the knitting community, especially for all the guinea pig lovers out there! These adorable furry friends not only thrive in social settings but also have an impressive range of sounds, including ‘put-puts’, ‘wheek-wheeks’, and ‘purrr-purrrs’, which make them a joy to have around! And to ensure your woolly guinea pig doesn’t feel lonely, why not knit a couple? A pair is always more fun!
This project is categorized as easy to medium, making it perfect for knitters looking to explore techniques like intarsia and short row knitting. The charming guinea pig featured in this pattern showcases the lovely ‘Dutch coloring’ that includes patches of white and brown fur, giving it a realistic and adorable appearance. Once completed, this fluffy creation measures approximately 14 cm from nose to bum, making it a lovely addition to any knitters' collection.
For this pattern, I used 3 mm double pointed needles (UK size 11, US size 3) and about 50 meters of high-quality yarn. To achieve that soft and fluffy look, I combined Lana Grossa Ariosa (16) in camel and Lang Alice (094) in ecru for the body, knitting them with a strand of Lana Grossa Mohairlana (04) in white. This delightful combination creates the perfect texture and appearance for your guinea pig. The paws are crafted using Lana Grossa Baby Soft Rose (13), adding a whimsical touch to your knitted pet.
