Happiness Socks

$6.00

Introducing our beautifully crafted Happiness Socks, inspired by the happiness symbol, also known as St. John's Cross. This symbol, highlighted in Elsebeth Lavold's insightful book, Viking Patterns for Knitting: Inspiration and Projects for Today’s Knitter, serves as a stunning motif for these socks. The happiness symbol elegantly adorns the leg against a textured background of garter stitch, creating a unique visual appeal. Flanking the happiness symbols are intricately braided cables that seamlessly extend down to the toe, enhancing both style and craftsmanship.

These Happiness Socks are designed to be knitted cuff-down, featuring a reinforced slip stitch heel flap and gusset for enhanced durability and comfort.

PATTERN SKILLS: This sock pattern includes a variety of techniques suitable for intermediate to advanced knitters. You will work with cables on a garter stitch background, perform lifted increases, and master the art of picking up stitches. Additionally, you’ll practice short-row shaping, slipping stitches, decreases, and the Kitchener stitch for a perfect toe closure.

SIZES: The pattern offers a versatile range of sizes for adults, including Small (S), Medium (M), and Large (L), designed to fit foot circumferences of approximately 7.75" (19.5 cm), 9" (23 cm), and 10.25" (26 cm) respectively. Our design includes ~1” (2.5 cm) of negative ease for a snug fit.

GAUGE: Achieving the right gauge is essential for the perfect fit. For the garter stitch using larger needles, the unblocked gauge measures 30 stitches and 60 rows over 4” (10 cm), while the blocked gauge shows 32 stitches and 60 rows. For stockinette stitch using smaller needles, the unblocked gauge is 38 stitches and 54 rows per 4” (10 cm), and when blocked, it measures 38 stitches and 55 rows.

Whether you’re an avid knitter looking to enhance your skills or a beginner eager for a fun project, our Happiness Socks pattern combines tradition with modern aesthetics, making it an ideal addition to your knitting repertoire. Get started today and bring a touch of Viking-inspired joy to your sock drawer!
