This lovely colorwork cardigan is designed to capture the breathtaking colors and landscapes of the Scottish Hebrides. Perfect for intermediate knitters, this cardigan is expertly knitted in the round with a center front steek, allowing for a seamless and polished finish.
The construction begins with the sleeves, which are knitted in the round, then seamlessly joined to the body to create a stunning yoke. To ensure comfort and style, short rows are utilized after shaping the yoke, providing extra height at the back neck for an ideal fit. After knitting, the steek is cut, and elegant button and buttonhole bands are added to complete this striking garment.
The buttons featured on this cardigan were a thoughtful gift, but choosing wooden or horn buttons would enhance its rustic charm even further. This cardigan was crafted specifically for my personal enjoyment, but due to popular demand, I’ve expanded the pattern to include two larger sizes, ensuring everyone can enjoy this cozy piece.
In the photos, you'll see the cardigan modeled in the first size, which offers approximately five inches (12 cm) of positive ease for a comfortable, relaxed fit. The pattern has not been test knitted in Spindrift yarn, so while I’ve provided recommended colors that closely resemble the original shades of Birlinn, please be aware that they may not be an exact match.
