Heredity Socks
My daughter inspired me to create this unique cable & slipped stitch pattern that beautifully resembles strands of DNA. This stunning design perfectly coordinates with my popular Heredity Hat, making it an ideal project for knitting enthusiasts who want to explore science-themed creations! Whether you're crafting for a budding scientist or simply enjoy intricate knitwear, this pattern is sure to delight any science nerd in your life.
PATTERN DIFFICULTY LEVEL: This pattern is rated as Advanced Intermediate by our talented test knitters. Essential skills required to successfully complete this project include slip stitch colorwork, cabling slipped stitches, picking up stitches, short-row shaping, as well as both decreases and increases. Get ready to challenge yourself and expand your knitting repertoire!
GAUGE: Achieve the perfect fit by using smaller needles for gauge swatches. Blocked measurements should be: 36 stitches & 52 rows = 4“/10cm in stockinette stitch. In the charted pattern stitch, the gauge should be 42 stitches & 56 rows = 4“/10cm. For larger needles, after blocking, you should aim for: 36 stitches & 44 rows = 4“/10cm in stockinette stitch and 40 stitches & 52 rows in charted pattern stitch. Always check your gauge to ensure the best results!
MATERIALS: For this stunning design, you'll need 2 skeins of sock yarn, each weighing 50g or more, in contrasting colors. We recommend using a solid color for the main color (MC) paired with a variegated color for the contrasting color (CC) to create visual interest and depth in your piece.
