Hornpipe Bag
Introducing my final design in the "All the Jigs and Reels" series: the exquisite Hornpipe Bag. This unique and stylish bag draws inspiration from the hornpipe, a traditional Irish dance characterized by its lively steps and distinctive hardshoe style, typically set to a 2/4 time signature.
The Hornpipe Bag showcases the art of double-knitting, resulting in a beautifully reversible and seamless accessory. The design features an intricate knotwork motif that is artfully displayed on both the base and all four sides of the bag, adding a touch of elegance and cultural richness. The construction begins with the base of the bag, which is worked first in rows. Stitches are then picked up reversibly around the finished base, allowing for a smooth transition as you work the sides all the way to the cast-off.
To complete this charming bag, you will create two i-cords that are skillfully woven through the eyelet round, providing both closure and stylish straps for easy carrying. This functional and beautiful design is perfect for showcasing your knitting skills while producing a practical accessory for any occasion.
This comprehensive pattern includes detailed directions for reversibly picking up stitches, forming the eyelets, and casting off, all meticulously explained and accompanied by enchanting pattern photos. Additionally, you will find helpful links to tutorials (both photo and video) for casting on for double-knitting, ensuring you have all the resources you need for a successful project. Please note that while this pattern provides extensive guidance, instructions on how to double-knit are NOT included, so some prior knowledge of the technique is recommended.
To successfully complete your Hornpipe Bag, you will need to utilize charts included in the pattern. Dive into this delightful knitting project and discover the joy of creating a reversible bag that embodies the spirit of traditional Irish dance!
