Iceland Gloves
Looking to create a cozy and stylish pair of gloves? This pattern utilizes three different shades of Lettlopi Icelandic wool, each ball weighing 50g. Perfect for both women's medium and large sizes, as well as small to medium men's hands, these gloves are easily customizable. For the larger size, you'll need at least 70g of your main color. The exciting aspect of Fair Isle patterns is that you have the freedom to choose how many colors you want to incorporate, allowing for endless creativity!
With a wide range of shades available, the Lettlopi wool offers a unique connection to Iceland, especially since the three beautiful colors I used were a thoughtful gift from a friend who visited the country. The gauge for this pattern measures 10cm x 10cm (or 4 inches x 4 inches), with a tension of 23 stitches to 19 rows over the Fair Isle design (stranded knitting).
These gloves are knitted in the round using three double-pointed needles sized 4.00mm. I personally recommend using short 20cm (8-inch) needles for easier handling, particularly when knitting the fingers and thumbs. However, if you prefer longer needles, they can also work just as well. It's important to note that the wool is Aran weight, making it slightly hairy but exceptionally warm and durable.
With this pattern, you'll not only gain the satisfaction of crafting your own gloves but will also stay toasty through the colder months. Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, this project is a delightful way to explore Fair Isle techniques and embrace the beauty of Icelandic wool.
