Interlocking Cable Hat
About the Design - Since creating the popular Interlocking Cable Socks years ago, I’ve been eager to incorporate the stunning cable pattern into other designs. This intricate cable design works perfectly for a cozy hat, making it an ideal choice for both style and warmth. The pattern offers two sizes that are easily adjustable by changing the needle size, catering to a wider range of knitters.
The hats were expertly sampled using Kraemer Yarns Naturally Nazareth, a luxurious 100% soft domestic wool yarn that is perfect for cold weather wear. Both sizes of the hat use less than one skein each, making this a fantastic and economical project for both beginners and experienced knitters alike.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 20 stitches and 26 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in Stockinette stitch with size 7 needles, or 18 stitches and 23 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette stitch with size 8 needles. This gauge information is crucial for ensuring the perfect fit for your hat.
For the cable pattern, 1 repeat (24 stitches) measures approximately 3.25 inches unblocked and 3.375 inches blocked, or 3.5 inches unblocked and 3.625 inches blocked. This precise measurement allows for a consistent and beautiful result in your finished hat.
Substitute Yarn Weight: This pattern is designed for Worsted to Heavy Worsted weight yarns, allowing for an array of choices. I’ve also suggested several similar yarns to the Naturally Nazareth Aran, which I used in this pattern. A smooth Merino wool or a soft acrylic blend would also work exceptionally well, providing both comfort and durability.
Happy Knitting and enjoy creating this beautiful cable hat! I hope it brings you warmth and joy during those chilly days. For more patterns and inspiration, feel free to explore our extensive collection of free and premium knitting patterns!
