Welcome to our delightful pattern for children's mittens available in three sizes: 1-2 years, 2-5 years, and 5-8 years. These adorable mittens are knitted in the round using double-pointed needles (dpns), but you can also use the magic loop method if you prefer. Achieving the perfect size and fit is easy, thanks to the gauge of 28 stitches and 30 rows per 10 cm (4 inches).
For this project, I have selected a luxurious 3 ply sport/fine weight yarn, specifically Drops Baby Alpaca Silk, which offers 167 meters per 50 grams. Although the recommended needle size is 3.5 mm, I found that using a slightly smaller needle of 3.0 mm was essential for achieving the precise gauge required for these mittens.
Additionally, you have the option to enhance the warmth and style of your mittens by holding a Kid Silk yarn together with the main yarn. You can choose to incorporate it into just part of the cuff, the entire cuff, or even throughout the whole mitten—whichever suits your taste! This versatility allows you to customize the mittens to match your child's personality or your knitting preferences.
