Isadora Duncan

Who says a shawl can't have multiple edgings or that shawls must always be knit in fine weight yarns? Not me! Welcome to the world of creative knitting where your imagination is the only limit.

This unique shawl pattern, named Isadora Duncan, started as an adventurous stashbuster project. The original yarn used, Bernat Mosaic, has unfortunately been discontinued. However, if you love the vibrant multicolored effect, fear not! Suitable substitutes such as Noro Silk Garden or Kureyon can give you the same stunning results. For another interpretation, I also crafted a version using Plymouth Galway yarn and 6.0mm needles, achieving a gauge of 12 stitches and 24 rows per 4 inches before blocking. Although this variation is not as brilliantly colored as the original Mosaic one, it showcases a more open lace pattern and offers a softer look that many knitters love. As always, it’s all about the knitter’s choice and personal creativity!

The Isadora Duncan shawl features an array of various garter stitch lace patterns, including one that boasts both right-side and wrong-side patterning. It’s worth noting that this pattern may not be the best choice for those new to lace knitting, so a bit of experience would be beneficial.

The name of this shawl pays homage to the legendary dancer Isadora Duncan and is inspired by Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case’s enchanting song of the same name. Immerse yourself in the art of knitting and create a beautiful accessory that reflects both your skill and personal style.
