YARN REQUIREMENTS

For this project, we recommend using DK weight 100% alpaca yarn. You will need:

200 yards (183 meters) for size small
250 yards (229 meters) for size medium

The sample hat is knit in size small using Pascuali Alpaca Fino, a luxurious 100% alpaca yarn with 218 yards (199 meters) per 100 grams (3.5 ounces). For a lovely finish, we used color 29 (mint).

GAUGE

Your gauge is important for achieving the best fit. Aim for:

34 stitches and 36 rows equals 4” (10 cm) on a size US4 (3.5mm) needle in ribbing, worked in the round.
One repeat of the cable pattern measures 3" (8 cm) using a size US5 (3.75mm) needle, in the round, unstretched.

NEEDLE SIZE

We recommend the following needle sizes for this project:

Size US4 (3.5mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle for ribbing
Size US5 (3.75mm) 16” (40 cm) circular needle for the body, along with your preferred needle for working in small circumference in the round.
