Kimono Moon Shawl
My daughter has always had her own unique sense of style, never particularly concerned with fashion, makeup, or fleeting trends. However, when she expressed a heartfelt desire to wear a traditional Japanese kimono, I recognized how special this moment was for her. With the help of my family, we purchased a stunning red silk furisode kimono, adorned with beautiful long sleeves featuring intricate gold and floral embroidery. To complete her look, we paired the kimono with a striking black and gold obi (wide belt) and traditional black geta sandals. I also crafted several delicate pink silk flowers for her hair, adding a lovely touch to her ensemble. Dressing her in the kimono took over an hour, but it was filled with laughter and joy. She looked absolutely radiant, full of happiness and beauty in that moment. As I reflect on that day, I realize it was the last time I had the pleasure of dressing my daughter or styling her hair. Now, she has blossomed into an amazing young woman, courageously pursuing her dreams across the globe in New Zealand. Recently, she shared the news that she wants to make New Zealand her permanent home. While I knew this transition was on the horizon, it still stings—oh, how I miss her dearly! Yet, my heart swells with pride for her adventurous spirit and achievements. The intricate lace pattern of this shawl, along with the slim red stripe running through its center, serves as a beautiful reminder of our special moments—the memories of her stunning kimono, the blossoms in her hair, and her beautiful presence forever nestled in my heart. This pattern not only reflects our bond but also serves as a wonderful project for those who appreciate knitting and the art of crafting.
