Koke Garden Cardi
When I began teaching garment construction at my Local Yarn Store (LYS), I wanted to create an adult-sized cardigan that could be comfortably knitted over three class sessions. This led to the design of the Koke Garden Cardi. "Koke" is the Japanese word for moss, reflecting the gentle, cozy nature of this cardigan. The Koke Garden Cardi features stylish 3/4 sleeves and a warm collar that doubles as a scarf or cowl, ensuring your neck stays warm and cozy on chilly days. One of my favorite design elements is the Seed stitch motif, which adorns the sleeve edges while you simultaneously work on the front bands. This cleverly integrated middle band of Seed stitch not only adds texture but also discreetly disguises the seams, giving your cardigan a polished look.
Additionally, the innovative Kirigami knitting technique was inspired by the remarkable Elizabeth Zimmerman's Bog Jacket, which you can find detailed in her book Knitting Around, available at [SchoolhousePress.com][1]. I highly recommend adding a copy of this book to your knitting library, not only for the fantastic patterns it contains but also for the enriching glimpse it offers into her inspiring life. Elizabeth Zimmerman was an extraordinary knitter, teacher, and designer who has influenced countless knitters worldwide. Reading her newsletters feels like having a Master Knitter sharing their wisdom right in your living room.
