Labrouste

$6.40

This exquisite semi-circular shawl is a beautiful homage to the stunning ceiling of the Henri Labrouste reading room at the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. My fascination with this architectural marvel began when I stumbled upon a book dedicated to French ironwork. Intrigued, I sought out more images online and was captivated by the intricate and elegant design of the finished ceiling.

The shawl design mirrors the graceful curves of the domes, with a lace border that draws inspiration from the flowing bands of ornamental designs featured prominently on the ceiling. This synthesis of art and knitting makes the shawl not only a practical accessory but also a stunning piece that celebrates French artistry.

This unique pattern was the centerpiece of my 2015 Tour de France KAL (Knit-A-Long), an experience that provided joy and companionship among fellow knitting enthusiasts. The shawl’s design includes a significant amount of straightforward knitting, allowing for the perfect balance of focus and relaxation—ideal for those cozy moments spent watching the thrilling stages of the Tour de France.
