Leapling

Every four years, February features an extra day, celebrated as Leap Day, and those born on this special day are affectionately known as "Leaplings." To honor this unique occasion, I've designed a lovely crescent shawl pattern that is perfect for your spring wardrobe. This shawl is crafted using meditative garter stitch rows adorned with delicate ribbons of lace, making it a versatile accessory that complements any outfit this spring.

This enchanting shawl was originally inspired by my mother, and I am truly honored to share this beautiful knitting pattern with you. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced knitter, this pattern provides a delightful challenge and an opportunity to create a stunning piece.

The sample shawl shown is crafted with a generous 1260 yards (1,152 meters) of fingering weight yarn. I used Malabrigo Mechita, a luxurious 100% superwash merino, in the vibrant colorway “880/Hojas.” For the smaller version, you will need approximately 840 yards (768 meters) of fingering weight yarn or 880 yards (805 meters) of lace weight yarn.

As for the notions required to complete this shawl, you'll need the following: For the fingering yarn, use a US size 4 (3.5 mm) 60” (153 cm) circular needle for the large size and a 40” (102 cm) circular needle for the small size. Choose the needle size that helps you achieve the desired gauge. For the lace yarn, you will need a US size 3 (3.25 mm) needle. Additionally, have a crochet hook or waste yarn handy for the provisional cast on, as well as a darning needle for weaving in your ends.

Get ready to create your own beautiful shawl with this easy-to-follow knitting pattern, and embrace the joy of crafting as you celebrate Leap Day with a stunning accessory that you can treasure for years to come!
