Library Socks

$6.00

Welcome to the FOURTH pattern in our exclusive year-long journey of beautifully crafted knitted sock patterns, with a total of twelve unique designs introduced throughout 2018. Each pattern draws inspiration from the charming streets, cozy homes, and captivating places of interest in my quaint town of Southeastern Connecticut.

This month’s featured design celebrates the historic Stonington Free Library, which has proudly stood in Wadawanuck Square since 1900. As the vibrant heartbeat of Stonington Borough, the library is surrounded by a lovely village green that hosts a variety of community events, including garden club tours, a delightful summer fair, a festive Christmas tree lighting, and much more, making it a vital part of local life.

These exquisite socks are knit from the top down, featuring a wrap and turn short row heel design for a snug fit. The pattern is primarily written for a size small, with options for medium and large presented in parentheses. The cuff is crafted with an aqua yarn that beautifully mirrors the Library's iconic verdigris copper roof. Additionally, the cuff showcases delightful lacy bobbles that represent the charming shell motif along the roofline of this beloved building.

The body of the socks employs a sophisticated yet simple staggered, interrupted ribbing pattern, effectively capturing the essence of pages on a bookshelf. The leg and foot use a solid parchment or soft gray yarn, interspersed with rich graphite-colored yarn, adding depth and character to the overall design.

Perfect for knitters of all skill levels, these socks not only promise warmth and comfort but also embody the spirit of community and history that defines Stonington. Whether you're an experienced knitter or just starting out, you’ll find joy in creating these one-of-a-kind socks that pay homage to a treasured local landmark.
