Little Owls - Oliver and Olivia
Introducing our adorable owlets, Oliver and Olivia! These cute softies were inspired by the popular Oliver Owl Sweater motif and a heartfelt request from my daughter to create a plush toy using the same soft, fleecy white yarn featured in that design. We've carefully crafted these charming baby owls to capture the essence of the Oliver Owl motif while giving Oliver a cuddly companion, Olivia! Standing proudly at approximately 6cm (2.25 inches), these delightful owlets can easily stand unaided, making them perfect for display or play.
The owlets are knitted flat on two needles using DK weight yarn, making them a manageable project for knitters of all skill levels. If you're looking to create larger owls, consider using chunky weight yarn for a more substantial design. Conversely, if you’d like to knit smaller versions of these charming creatures, you can opt for 4-ply yarn. Just remember to use smaller needles than those recommended by the yarn company to ensure that your stuffing doesn't peek through, keeping your softies looking neat and tidy.
For this project, I chose Sirdar Snowflake as the main yarn, which offers a lovely texture and softness perfect for cuddling. I've suggested using Sublime extra fine merino DK for the contrast yarn to add delightful detail, but only a small amount is needed for the contrasting colors. Feel free to dig into your stash—any oddments you have that are the same weight as your main yarn will work wonderfully!
