Little (Splash of) Petrichor
This delightful cardigan, titled “Little (Splash of) Petrichor,” evolved from the adult-sized “Petrichor” cardigan. Its creation was inspired by the numerous inquiries from knitting enthusiasts who loved the unique stitch pattern found in my “Get the Picture” hat. After designing and testing this cardigan for myself to see how the stitch pattern worked out in a sweater, I was inspired to create a version for my daughter. When Tangled Yarn approached me to design a sweater featuring Libby Summers Fine Aran yarn, I knew this cardigan would be the perfect fit for this charming project.
“Little (Splash of) Petrichor” is expertly knit using the same beloved stitch pattern as its adult-sized counterpart, but with customized shaping tailored specifically for little girls. This results in a design that does not include any waist shaping, instead featuring enhanced front neckline shaping to allow the fronts to overlap beautifully. Additionally, the extra back shaping provides a slight A-line effect that promotes both comfort and style. Just like the adult version, this cardigan is knit from the top down, ensuring a seamless construction (complete with pockets that are joined to the hem as you go). All raglan increases are thoughtfully charted for ease of use, making this an ideal project for knitters of various skill levels.
Materials Required:
- Libby Summers Fine Aran (50% Alpaca / 50% Peruvian Highland Wool) - 50g/115 yards (105 meters)
This beautiful cardigan not only showcases a stunning stitch pattern but also offers an enjoyable knitting experience for those who want to create a special piece for the little girls in their lives. Whether you’re a beginner looking to expand your skills or an experienced knitter searching for your next project, “Little (Splash of) Petrichor” pairs classic style with modern ease, making it a perfect choice for any knitting collection.
