Llandudno Promenade Shawl
This beautifully crafted shawl pattern, first designed in 2020, has been completely rewritten with updated yarn and needle specifications, re-released in March 2023. Expertly tech edited by Deb Bramham, this pattern stands out with its unique design inspired by the mesmerizing changing shades of the sea and the intricate ironwork of Llandudno Pier.
The shawl features an easy yet satisfying asymmetrical garter stitch triangle, elegantly complemented by lace panels that emphasize the stunning color transitions throughout the piece. Ideal for both novice and experienced knitters, the pattern provides options for both charted and fully written instructions, ensuring a seamless knitting experience.
Yarn: For the main color (MC), you'll need Garthenor Organic Preseli—a luxurious blend of 100% Organic British Wool (available in 200m per 50g skeins)—requiring 2 skeins in the shade Rigging. For the contrasting colors (CC1-CC5), the design utilizes RiverKnits Nene 4 ply Gradient, made of 100% Bluefaced Leicester Wool, providing 5 x 80m per 20g mini skeins (400m per set) in the vibrant Turquoise colorway.
Needles: You will need 3.75mm needles, either 60cm circular or 30cm straight, as well as a 150cm circular needle specifically for the border construction.
Notions: Don't forget your tapestry needle for weaving in ends, along with 3 stitch markers for the border. A locking stitch marker is also optional but can be useful for keeping track of your progress.
Tension: The tension gauge for this project is approximately 10cm = 18 (19) stitches x 33 (35) rows over garter stitch when blocked, ensuring your shawl will have the right drape and fit.
This gorgeous shawl pattern is perfect for those looking to create a stunning accessory that showcases the beauty of color play in their knitting projects. Whether knitting for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone special, this versatile shawl is sure to bring joy and style to any wardrobe.
