London's Fallen Leaves Shawl
The inspiration for this exquisite triangular shawl blossomed during my stay in London in 2022. Despite it being July, the atmosphere felt more akin to September or October. The intense drought that summer had led to many trees in parks and city streets shedding their leaves early, while meadows turned a stark, dry yellow. This hauntingly beautiful sight left a profound impact on me and sparked the idea for this unique shawl design.
This stunning triangular shawl is crafted in one continuous piece, worked back and forth from the top down. The intricate design features a small, delicate center panel flanked by elegant right and left wings. After completing the body of the shawl, a lovely leaf-edging décor is created by binding off all stitches, resulting in a charming finish that mirrors nature's beauty. The pattern incorporates twisted stitches in both the right side and wrong side rows, adding depth and texture that knitters will adore.
For this project, I recommend using the original yarn: Madelinetosh „Pashmina“ (75 % superwash Merino Wool, 15 % Silk, 10 % Cashmere), which offers a luxurious feel as well as a stunning drape. Each skein contains 329 m/113 g, and you will need 2 skeins in the beautiful colorway “Night Bloom” to complete your shawl.
It’s important to note that I used almost all the yarn for this project. If you choose to work with a larger needle size or tend to knit loosely, you might require additional yarn. Always keep this in mind to ensure you have enough materials to finish your shawl beautifully.
This relaxing knitting project is perfect for makers of all experience levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to hone your skills, or an experienced knitter searching for your next delightful challenge, this shawl is sure to provide enjoyment and satisfaction. Have fun, and immerse yourself in the soothing rhythm of knitting!
