Louden Shawl
Louden Shawl is an exquisite crescent-shaped shawl that highlights a beautiful combination of texture and a delicate, airy lace pattern. Finished with an adorable pleated edge, this shawl not only serves as a stylish accessory but also offers comfort and warmth. The Louden Shawl is crafted in one seamless piece, beginning from the top and elegantly flowing down to its intricately designed edges.
Size: After thorough blocking, the shawl measures approximately 63” in wingspan and 19” in depth (160 cm wingspan, 48 cm depth). Please note that the final dimensions of your shawl may vary based on the yarn type chosen, the size of needles used, your individual gauge, and the frequency with which the lace pattern is repeated.
Materials and Tools:
Yarn: This project requires fingering weight yarn in a quantity of 650 - 880 yards (600 - 800 m). For the sample shown in the images, I utilized a lovely tweed yarn from my stash made of 80% merino lambswool and 20% nylon, totaling 492 yards (450 meters) per 100 grams, in a neutral beige colorway that complements various outfits perfectly.
Needles: You will need US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needles, preferably 32” (80 cm) or 40” (100 cm) in length to accommodate the large number of stitches used as you work on this shawl.
Markers are optional but can help keep your place as you navigate through the beautiful lace design.
Knitting Skills: This pattern is suitable for knitters with basic skills. Familiarity with techniques such as kfb (knit front and back), p2tog (purl two together), and p3tog (purl three together) is beneficial for achieving the lovely lace effect.
