Malwina
Introducing the Malwina shawl, a stunning sister design to my beloved shawl, Nasturcja. The name “Malwina” is inspired by the vibrant hollyhock flower, known as "malwa" in Polish, reflecting the beautiful color of the yarn I chose for this piece. This shawl features a larger rectangular shape, making it perfect for wrapping yourself in warmth while adding a vibrant splash of color to your wardrobe. The lace sections are crafted with a relatively easy pattern that incorporates basic increasing and decreasing techniques, seamlessly complemented by a generous stockinette section that showcases the intricate lace motifs beautifully.
Yarn – This versatile shawl can be knit using sock, sport, or DK weight yarn. For my version, I used Garnstudio Drops Alpaca, requiring 7 skeins to achieve a luxurious feel and drape.
Size - The overall size of your Malwina shawl will vary based on the yarn weight and needle size you choose. Feel free to add repeats to extend the length of the shawl or adjust the number of stitches in the stockinette section to modify the width to your preference, tailoring it to your style.
My gauge for this pattern is 24 stitches by 32 rows, resulting in a 4-inch by 4-inch (10cm x 10cm) square in stockinette stitch after blocking. However, achieving the exact gauge is not crucial—what’s most important is that you enjoy the process of knitting your shawl.
Whether you are a seasoned knitter or a beginner looking for a delightful project, the Malwina shawl offers a perfect blend of simplicity and elegance. Start your knitting journey today and adorn yourself with this floral-inspired, eye-catching accessory that will brighten your life and wardrobe!
