Mitts of Moria
Bottom up, worked in the round, and super stretchy, these enchanting fingerless mitts are a delightful addition to any knitter's collection!
Originally inspired by the serene imagery of a summer garden, with ribbed sections resembling delicate stems and seed sections mimicking vibrant flowers, the design took on a life of its own throughout the creative process. “How pretty they will be,” I envisioned.
However, the more I knitted, the more I began to uncover their true essence…
Rather than a cheerful, sunlit garden where flowers sway gently in the breeze, these mitts became something far more ancient and profound. They transformed into relics of a primeval Middle-earth, evoking the grandeur and mystery of a time long past. As I continued to knit, the ribbed sections evolved into towering stone columns, reminiscent of an underground realm that holds untold secrets. The seed sections morphed into shadowy caves nestled in a labyrinthine network hidden deep beneath the Misty Mountains. This imagery harkens back to the days when Durin’s Folk tirelessly mined for precious Mithril in the fabled Mines of Moria, during the Sleep of Yavanna, in the final epoch of the Ages of the Stars. Long ago in the legendary Khazad-dûm, the rich tapestry of history came alive under my fingers.
With their elegant yet rugged design, these fingerless mitts not only keep your hands warm but also carry the weight of an extraordinary story, blending fantasy and craftsmanship for a unique knitting experience. Whether you're an experienced knitter or a budding enthusiast, this pattern invites you to embark on a creative journey into the heart of Middle-earth.
