Molly Baby Socks

Molly Baby socks were inspired by a delightful trip to a charming Dallas yarn shop while visiting friends. It all started with a simple need: Molly required cozy socks for her little feet. During a lovely evening spent with Molly’s parents, I faced an unexpected challenge—there were no sets of double-pointed needles (dpns) available in the right size. This creative dilemma led to the invention of the Molly Baby socks, which are expertly knit on straight needles with just two dpns used at the very end of the project. And thus, the Molly Baby sock pattern was born! This unique design features a shaped baby sock technique, taking inspiration from Priscilla Gibson-Roberts’ innovative short rows, but reimagined for knitting on straight needles in just one evening.

Originally published on the popular knitting resource MagKnits, this updated pattern has undergone extensive editing to ensure clarity and ease of use, including refreshed gauge and yarn recommendations. Molly modeled the original design using Classic Elite Star yarn, which has since been discontinued. However, this revised pattern accommodates modern materials by being worked with two strands of fingering weight yarn or a single strand of sport weight yarn that knits at a gauge of 5 stitches per inch. You will need #4 (3.5mm) straight needles for the main body of the sock and two dpns for the bind-off (BO) technique.
