Moroccan Camels and Elephants Wrap
On my travels through Morocco, I stumbled upon a vibrant, vintage hand-printed textile that captured my heart with its charming camel and elephant design. This unique pattern marks my third creation inspired by traditional African design elements, featuring a delightful combination of 12 camels and 18 elephants! This wrap isn't just a feast for the eyes; it's a beautiful homage to the rich cultural motifs of Africa.
This piece is generously sized, measuring approximately 50 x 210 cm (20 x 83 in), and it's crafted using 4-ply wool and 3.5mm knitting needles. Ideal for adding a cozy touch to your wardrobe, this wrap serves as an excellent layering piece for any season. To create this stunning design, I utilized the majority of three 100-gram skeins of super-wash wool—about 900 meters of yarn—leaving me with around 100 meters leftover for future projects. As showcased in the accompanying photos, I incorporated a contrasting color, which required approximately 200-225 meters of 2-ply super-wash wool. This addition not only enhances the visual interest of the pattern but also provides structural support, ensuring durability.
The knitting process involves creating two identical panels, which are then seamlessly grafted together using the Kitchener stitch, a technique that guarantees a clean and professional finish. It's important to note that gauge is not a critical factor for this particular pattern, making it accessible for knitters of all skill levels.
Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting out, this colorful wrap is sure to be a rewarding project.
