Mrs Clinton’s Dishcloth
Inspired by a dishcloth I knitted in Mrs. Clinton’s class back in the sixties, this versatile knitted dishcloth pattern has been carefully designed by holding together two thrifted yarns. The delightful extra chunkiness, paired with the loose tension, makes this dishcloth not only perfect for washing dishes but also an excellent counter wipe. The strategic holes in the design ensure that it dries quickly and stays fresh, while the cotton yarn used allows for machine washing in hot water, promoting excellent hygiene.
This adaptable pattern also works wonderfully as a washcloth or spa cloth, offering multiple uses around the home. Although I’ve utilized discontinued yarns, you can easily substitute with any two 10 ply yarns or a creative mix of 12 ply and DK cotton yarns to achieve the lovely two-tone effect. The key is to ensure the final thickness reaches a super chunky 20 ply. It’s important to include at least one yarn with stretch to make sure the knitted fabric performs well; combining two non-stretch yarns may lead to unsatisfactory results.
For a successful knitting experience, remember to check your yarn labels and select a cotton option that provides the right amount of elasticity. This pattern is not just about utility; it also celebrates creativity and the joy of crafting. So grab your needles and get started on this fun, cozy, and practical dishcloth that brightens up any kitchen or bathroom. Enjoy the satisfaction of making something beautiful and functional with your own two hands!
