Murano
Discover the elegance of the Murano Shawl, a stunning knitting project inspired by the enchanting island of Murano, renowned for its exquisite glass craftsmanship nestled in the Venetian lagoon. This sophisticated summer shawl features intricate lace patterns, delicate pastel colours, and a subtle touch of beads, making it a perfect accessory for warm-weather outings. The soft hues reflect the faded pastels found on the island of Murano, while the carefully placed glass beads pay homage to Murano's rich history of glass production.
To begin this beautiful shawl, I recommend using the Garter Tab cast-on method. For guidance, check out my comprehensive Garter Tab tutorial.
Materials Required:
To create the Murano Shawl, gather the following materials: Navia Bummull yarn (4ply; 55% wool/45% cotton; 230m/252yds per 50g) in two shades: 411 Grass Green (C1) x 2 balls & 413 Lavender (C2) x 2 balls. Additionally, you will need a 4mm (UK 8/US 6) circular needle with an 80cm (32in) length, Debbie Abrahams Seed Beads size 6 in colour 340 Pebble x 493 (1 bag), and a 0.75mm (US 14) crochet hook.
Difficulty Level: This pattern is classified as Intermediate, suitable for knitters with some experience.
Size: The finished shawl measures approximately 150cm/59in at the inner crescent and has a depth of 60cm/23½in, making it a beautiful draping accessory.
Tension: Achieve a tension of 18 stitches and 26 rows over a 10cm/4in square in Chart A after blocking. While exact tension is not critical, keep in mind that variations in tension may affect the final size and the quantity of yarn required for your shawl.
Embrace the charm of Italian artistry with the Murano Shawl pattern and create a piece that adds a touch of elegance to any outfit this summer. Happy knitting!
