Nakiska Cardigan

This beautifully cabled, top-down raglan cardigan was born from a personal challenge during the 2018 Ravellenics Games. Inspired by my experiences living in Calgary during the 1988 Winter Games, I drew motivation from Nakiska, the venue for the alpine events. This unique cardigan features mirrored cables that extend elegantly across the back, sleeves, and side seams, creating a visually stunning piece that’s as comfortable as it is stylish. One of the standout features of this design is the integrated button band, allowing you to work seamlessly as you knit the cardigan fronts, eliminating the need for any additional finishing touches.

Finished Size:

The cardigan is available in a range of sizes, accommodating chest measurements of 32(36, 40, 44, 48, 52) inches. It also offers varying sleeve circumferences of 12.75(13.75, 14.5, 16.25, 17, 17.75) inches, with overall lengths of 14(14.5, 15, 16, 16.5, 17) inches, ensuring a perfect fit for every body type.

Yarn:

This design utilizes Dragonfly Fibers Traveler yarn, composed of 100% Superwash Merino wool, providing a luxurious feel and excellent drape. Each skein contains 280 yards/113g, and you will need approximately 4(4, 5, 5, 6, 6) skeins for completion. The sample cardigan was crafted in the vibrant colorway of Dragonberry, which adds a delightful pop of color to any wardrobe.

Needles:

You will need a US #4/3.25mm circular needle, ideally 32 inches or longer, especially if you are knitting larger sizes that may require a longer needle for comfort. For knitting the smaller circumferences in the round, a set of US #4/3.25mm double-pointed needles or your preferred method for small circumferences will work perfectly.

Gauge:

The gauge for this pattern is 20 stitches and 28 rows per 4” in stockinette stitch, which can be achieved both while working flat and in the round. Achieving the correct gauge is essential for ensuring that your cardigan fits beautifully and looks just as stunning as the design intended.
