Ngahere Beanie (10ply)
The Ngahere knitting pattern is my debut design, inspired by the stunning forest that surrounds me on Mana Island. The word "Ngahere" (na-here-re) is derived from M?ori, where it means "forest." In M?ori tradition, there exists a profound connection between people and the forests, both of which were created by T?ne, the god of the forest. This pattern captures the essence of that relationship through its intricately interwoven leaves, symbolizing the bond between humanity and nature. The design embodies the concept of “wairua o te ngahere,” which translates to the spirit of the forest, invoking its beauty and tranquility in every stitch. The feminine version of Ngahere is particularly inspired by the delicate small-leaved Coprosma, a plant that thrives among the towering trees, adding an enchanting touch to the landscape. Each stitch in this pattern not only reflects the aesthetic beauty of these vibrant plants but also pays homage to the harmony and connection we have with the natural world. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced knitter, the Ngahere pattern offers a unique and meaningful project that celebrates the elegant beauty of the forest and the rich cultural heritage of the M?ori people. Experience the joy and fulfillment of creating your very own piece that resonates with the spirit of nature!
