Norah's Hidden Flower
One of my favorite designers in the world of knitwear is Norah Gaughan, who continually sets the benchmark for geometrical patterns and innovative knitwear design. Gaughan’s renowned “Twisted Stitch Sourcebook,” where she generously shares a treasure trove of unique stitch patterns, serves as a never-ending source of inspiration for both designers and passionate knitters all over the globe. The stunning pattern stitch I am using is my own creation but was brought to life through careful swatching and experimentation with some of Norah's brilliant ideas.
This knitting pattern includes detailed instructions for crafting both a stylish vest and a cozy sweater version of the pullover. The design is worked sideways and features eye-catching hexagons, achieved by a combination of garter stitch, purl stitch, and intricate travelling knit stitches. The front and back panels are crafted with elegantly sloped shoulders and are worked flat, while the front showcases a chic V-shaped neckline created through careful symmetrical decreases and increases. The front is intentionally shorter than the back, offering a trendy asymmetrical look, and there are two customizable options for the length of the vest or sweater to suit your personal style.
Once the panels are completed, the shoulders and sides are seamed together for a seamless finish, and the neckline is beautifully finished with a delicate garter stitch band. For those opting for the sweater version, stitches are picked up after sewing the sides together, with sleeves worked in the round on small circumference circular needles, providing a polished and refined finish.
It's important to note that the stitch pattern instructions are provided as charts only; no row-by-row written pattern is included, allowing experienced knitters to fully embrace this technique-driven project. This pattern not only highlights the beauty of geometric designs but also encourages knitters to explore their creativity, making it an essential addition to any knitting collection.
Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting, this pullover pattern is sure to inspire and challenge your skills while resulting in a stunning, wearable piece of art. Dive into this innovative project and create your own unique version today!
