Norwegian Style Jacket

Many years ago, my mum purchased a beautiful commercially made jacket while enjoying a holiday in Norway. Inspired by her request, I created this unique design using luxurious Scottish yarn, and I'm thrilled to share the results with you. This stunning jacket features a body bordered by a traditional “snowflake” motif, complemented by a background of delicate small crosses. The eye-catching snowflake pattern is elegantly repeated around the top of the dropped sleeves, while a contrasting border graces the cuffs, hem, collar, and front bands, with added detail as a stylish saddle on the shoulders.

The garment is thoughtfully designed for ease of wear, featuring edge-to-edge front bands that are fastened with charming traditional Scandinavian-style clasp fasteners. This knitting pattern is expertly crafted in the round, with steeks utilized for the front and armholes; the sleeves are then picked up and knitted downwards for a seamless finish. While the original jacket is knitted using Alice Starmore Hebridean 3-ply yarn, this design can also work beautifully with heavier DK, worsted, or light aran yarn, allowing for customization based on personal preference and availability.
