Not Another Drop Stitch Shawl
Experience the simplicity and relaxation of knitting with our "No Drop Stitch Shawl" pattern. This name says it all—there are no drop stitches involved! The shawl is designed primarily in garter stitch, worked from the bottom to the top, making it an ideal project for knitters of all skill levels. Plus, it can be easily adjusted to any desired size and is compatible with any type of yarn. For the sample, we used a fingering weight sock yarn (Lana Grossa Meilenweit Special), but you are free to choose your favorite yarn to achieve your personal style.
Despite the relaxing nature of garter stitch, there are a few key areas where attention is needed—especially along the borders. This added detail ensures that your finished shawl will not only be beautiful but also well-constructed.
Difficulty level: Easy (perfect for beginners, featuring basic garter stitch and simple increases)
Yarn requirement: We recommend using Lana Grossa Meilenweit Special, which consists of 80% wool and 20% nylon for a perfect balance of warmth and durability. Each ball contains 209m (229yds) and for our sample measuring 170 x 60cm (68 x 24in), we used a total of 560m (612yds)—approximately 3 balls.
Recommended needles: 4mm/US 6 circular needles will provide the best results for this project.
Notions needed: You will require a yarn needle and optionally, 1 stitch marker to help keep track of your progress.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 22 stitches and 48 rows in garter stitch per 10cm/4in in your chosen fingering weight yarn. While matching the gauge is helpful, it is not essential for the overall success of the shawl.
Size: The beauty of this pattern is that it can be crafted to any size you desire, whether you prefer a cozy wrap or an oversized shawl to keep warm.
