This pattern, featured in the Holiday 2012 issue (pages 36-38), contains an error in the flap instructions that we sincerely regret. Please note the corrected instructions below:
Just below the top edge ribbing, you will need to pick up and knit 16 (18, 20, 22) sts beginning just before the thumb junction. While working across the top of the mitten, cast on an additional 16 (18, 20, 22) sts.
Next rnd: Continue in thrum pattern, knitting 16 (18, 20, 22) sts, then work k2, p2 rib across the previously cast-on 16 (18, 20, 22) sts. Proceed with your knitting in pattern until the ribbed section measures 1½". Afterward, continue in thrum pattern, knitting all sts for a snug, warm finish.
