Paper Boat
Introducing the ‘Paper Boat’ knitting pattern, a charming and playful take on the classic origami boat design! Reminiscent of childhood, when we crafted large paper boats out of newspaper to serve as pirate-captain hats or small floats for kitchen sink adventures, this knitted version is an adorable homage. Please note: while this version won't float, it will definitely float in the realm of creativity!
This delightful hat is constructed in one seamless piece, starting with a stylish wide brim. The pattern features clear, written instructions rather than charts, making it suitable for knitters of varying experience levels. Every second round serves as a ‘rest’ round to ensure you have a comfortable knitting experience. Essential skills required include knitting in the round, making knit and purl stitches, and basic decreases, perfect for those looking to hone their techniques while creating something special.
When it comes to materials, you will need between 145 to 310 yards (or 133 to 284 meters) of sock or fingering-weight yarn. For the Baby and Toddler sizes, one 50g ball of Morris Empire 4ply yarn will suffice, but for larger sizes, you will need to grab two balls. For added authenticity, I chose a marled black and white yarn to resemble newsprint, but feel free to express your creativity with a smooth, bouncy yarn of your choice for a beautifully defined texture.
Yards/metres required by size: 145 yards/133 meters for Baby, 180 yards/165 meters for Toddler, 210 yards/192 meters for Child, 270 yards/247 meters for Adult, and 310 yards/284 meters for larger sizes.
Remember, this pattern is designed for personal use only. Dive into the world of knitting with the ‘Paper Boat’ pattern and create a unique, whimsical hat that's perfect for both imaginative play and cozy wear!
