This winter, as we finally prepared our drafty old white farmhouse for blown insulation, we discovered a treasure trove in the 200-year-old attic. Amidst piles of unused items and accumulated dust, a small, yellowed cardboard box captured my attention. Inside this box lay priceless heirlooms and memories from my family’s past.

Among the items was my silver baby bowl and various cherished mementos belonging to my late father. However, the most remarkable find was a large fabric sack, faded yet beautifully creased from careful fold lines—this sack was my great-great-grandfather's fire bag. A family heirloom passed down through generations, its history is rich and profound. My Aunt Perry, the dedicated curator of our family's heritage, generously granted me her blessing to keep it, making this discovery even more meaningful.
