Introducing the Parioli Cardigan, my second Ravellenics challenge from the 2018 Olympic knitting games. This delightful top-down, raglan sleeve cardigan is named after the charming Parioli neighborhood in Rome, where we had the pleasure of staying. Designed for quick and enjoyable knitting, the Parioli features an easily memorized lace edging that adorns the cuffs, collar, and bottom edge, adding a touch of elegance to your finished piece. With minimal finishing required—just weaving in ends—this project is perfect for knitters of all skill levels. Using bulky yarn, it promises not only a swift completion but also gentle waist shaping for a flattering fit.

Finished Size:

This cardigan is available in a range of sizes to accommodate various body types: Chest measurements are 32(36, 40, 44, 48, 52) inches, with sleeve circumferences of 12.75(13.75, 14.5, 16.25, 17, 17.75) inches. The length can be customized to your liking, but the standard lengths from underarm to hem are 14(14.5, 15, 16, 16.5, 17) inches, allowing for personal style adjustments.

Yarn: For this project, I recommend using Dragonfly Fibers Super Traveler, a luxurious 100% superwash merino wool that boasts 107 yards per 4 oz skein. You will need 5(6, 7, 8, 9, 10) skeins depending on your chosen size. The sample was beautifully crafted using the Mermaid colorway, which adds a vibrant touch to the design.

Needles:

To knit the Parioli Cardigan, you will need a US #10/6.00mm circular needle that is at least 32 inches long; you may also use the same double-pointed needles (dpns) or circulars for knitting smaller circumference sections in the round. Alternatively, feel free to use a needle size that achieves the correct gauge for your knitting.

Gauge: Achieving the proper gauge is essential for a successful project—aim for 12 stitches and 16 rows per 4 inches in stockinette stitch, worked both flat and in the round. This will ensure that your cardigan fits perfectly and showcases the beautiful lace details.
