Path of the Peacock
Discover the beauty of nature with our stunning Peacock-Inspired Cowl and Mitt Set knitting pattern. This design was inspired by a childhood memory of seeing a majestic peacock in the wild on the eastern shore of Maryland. Unlike the peacocks confined to cages at zoos, this enchanting sight left a lasting impression, and I aimed to recreate that magic through this knitting project. After countless days spent searching the yard for vibrant peacock feathers, I decided to craft this unique cowl and mitt set, merging my love for knitting with the allure of the wild.
Yarn: For this project, I recommend using Knit Picks Swish, which is made from 100% Superwash Merino wool. You’ll need 1 skein of Pearlescent Tonal (Main Color) and 1 skein of Kindling Tonal (Contrast Color). Each skein contains 220 yards/100g, ensuring you have plenty of yarn to complete your set.
Gauge: Achieve the perfect fit with a gauge of 20 stitches = 4” (10 cm) and 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) in stockinette stitch.
Needles: You'll need US Size 7-8 (4.5-5mm) straight needles and double-pointed needles (dpns) to knit this delightful set.
Notions: Don’t forget essential knitting tools including a tapestry needle for weaving in ends, waste yarn for provisional cast-ons, and a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds.
Sample Finished Size: The finished cowl measures 21” (53 cm) in circumference and 9“ (22.5 cm) in width when unstretched. The matching mitts are designed to fit up to a 9” (22.5 cm) palm circumference, making them a cozy yet fashionable addition to your wardrobe.
This Peacock-Inspired Cowl and Mitt Set is not just a knitting project; it's a way to carry the memory of nature’s elegance with you wherever you go. Perfect for both beginner and intermediate knitters, this pattern guides you through each step to help you create a beautiful piece that captures the essence of a peacock's grace and charm.
