Pedestal

This project originally began as an exploration of head armor designs, but as I worked on it, the striking wide rib columns began to evoke beautiful marble pedestals that often serve as stands for busts in art galleries (and, of course, get accidentally knocked over in movies!).

Designed with simplicity in mind, this hat is perfect for knitters who want to unleash their creativity through customization. Its versatile style makes it a perfectly unisex accessory, suited for anyone looking to add a unique piece to their wardrobe!

This pattern is intended for a short toque, but if you prefer a different look, you can easily adjust the length by adding more ribbing rounds or incorporating extra body rounds between the purl sections to create a longer, slouchier hat.

For this project, I used a heavier worsted/aran weight yarn to achieve the specified gauge, ensuring a cozy and warm finished product that's great for cooler weather.

Experiment with color by working each section of the hat in a different shade or by simply highlighting the purl bands for a stylish contrast. This pattern not only lets you play with hues and textures but allows for endless creative possibilities!
