Peg's Mitts
Last Tuesday night, my dear husband returned home with a generous bag of food goodies sent to us by his co-teacher, Peg. Known for her green thumb, Peg grows a vast garden and shares her bounty with us during the summer and fall. To our surprise, she continued this tradition even in February, providing us with enough food for at least five hearty meals. As I focus on my recovery from hip replacement surgery, it's been my husband who has taken on all the cooking and grocery shopping. This unexpected gift was not only a delightful surprise but a much-appreciated gesture of kindness. However, I felt that Peg deserved something more than just a simple thank you in return for her generosity. I recalled that she had expressed an interest in fingerless mitts last fall, and my husband knew her favorite colors. Inspired by this, I designed a fun and functional set of fingerless mitts just for her!
To bring this pattern to life, you will need two sets of needles: two 24" US 5 needles for the corrugated ribbing and two 24" US 4 needles for the hand section. Using fingering yarn, you'll hold the yarn doubled throughout the project. For the cuff, I also incorporated some leftover yarn that coordinated with the main colorway; however, this is optional and you can achieve a beautiful look using just the multi-color and tonal yarn. The rippled texture of the corrugated ribbing at the cuff, combined with a cozy, dense slip stitch pattern for the hands, ensures that these mitts are both stylish and warm.
This knitting pattern not only makes a thoughtful gift but also allows you to create something practical and unique. The fingerless design is perfect for keeping your hands warm while maintaining dexterity for daily tasks. Whether you're looking for a handmade present or want to treat yourself to something special, this fingerless mitts pattern is the perfect project to showcase your knitting skills. Get started today and express your gratitude with a gift that will keep Peg warm through the cold months!
