Philadelphus

In late spring through early summer, my patio becomes a serene oasis, lightly fragranced by the delightful mock orange plants blooming in my garden. Their charming small white flowers have served as inspiration for several of my knitting patterns, and I decided it was high time to create one that celebrates their beauty with a dedicated design!

Introducing the "Mock Orange Delight" shawl: a stunning top-down “super square” shawl that features an innovative shape. Unlike traditional shawls, which have four sides, this unique design includes five sides, allowing for a more dynamic and interesting drape. The shawl begins with a clever provisional cast on using a garter tab technique, which sets the stage for a captivating journey through knitting.

As you work, you will be enchanted by the all-over light and airy lace pattern, perfectly complemented by the addition of shimmering beads, which intersperse the delicate lacework for a touch of elegance. The shawl is then beautifully finished with a base of intricate leaves that gracefully surround the outer edge, mimicking the lush foliage of mock orange in full bloom.

This pattern is still available for free from Knotions in charted form. However, for those who prefer a more detailed approach, it is now also offered as a paid PDF that includes full line-by-line written instructions, ensuring clarity and ease as you knit your very own "Mock Orange Delight" shawl.

Whether you’re a seasoned knitter or a passionate beginner, this pattern promises a delightful knitting experience, allowing you to create an exquisite shawl that embodies the enchanting fragrance and beauty of the mock orange flowers of summer.
