Pippin Socks
Introducing a delightful sock knitting pattern inspired by Peregrin Took, beloved hobbit of the Shire, Squire of Gondor, and one of the iconic members of the Fellowship as depicted in J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Fellowship of the Ring." This unique and charming design captures the essence of Pippin's adventurous spirit, making it a perfect project for fans of Middle-earth.
This pattern has undergone thorough knit-testing and proofreading by a talented group of testers, to whom I owe my heartfelt gratitude! Your support in ensuring this pattern is smooth and accurate is much appreciated—thank you all!
Skill Level: Intermediate; the pattern assumes you have a basic knowledge of top-down sock construction, cabling techniques, decreases, and chart reading skills (which is crucial for this design!).
Materials Required: You will need 1 set of US1.5 double-pointed needles (DPNs) or a size that allows you to achieve the desired gauge. Some testers have successfully used the Magic Loop method along with stitch markers. Additionally, you’ll require a cable needle (or the ability to cable without one, which is strongly recommended!), a tapestry needle, scissors, and a measuring tape.
Yarn Requirements: Approximately 400 yards of fingering weight yarn is necessary for this project. I personally used Nuna and found that I needed three skeins to complete the size large sock—be sure to check your yardage to avoid running out!
Ease: The fit is very slightly negative, ensuring a snug yet stretchy sock.
Size & Measurements: Available in two sizes: Small (64 stitches) and Large (72 stitches) to cater to different foot sizes.
Embrace the adventure with these beautiful socks inspired by a beloved character! This pattern is not only a fun knitting project but also a tribute to the spirit of camaraderie found in Tolkien's world. Happy knitting!
