Plates blanket

$3.57

Plötulopi, an exquisite unspun Icelandic wool, is also commonly known as pencil roving. This unique yarn is available in beautifully wound, flat rolls referred to as "plates." In Danish, it’s called "Pladegarn," which translates to "plate yarn," lending inspiration to the name of this delightful blanket pattern.

The charmingly rustic unspun quality of Plötulopi gives it a light and airy feel, but it also makes the yarn slightly more prone to breakage compared to traditional spun yarns. If you experience a break, fear not! Simply lay the two strands next together and continue knitting with double strands for several stitches, seamlessly blending your work.

This versatile pattern is designed to create a thicker, cozier blanket by working with two strands of Plötulopi yarn together. This technique not only enhances warmth but also allows for the creation of a more subtle and beautiful gradient effect. To achieve this, you’ll draw the ends from either side of the plate and switch one strand to a new color plate when you have approximately 25g of the first plate remaining, ensuring a smooth transition between colors.

For our sample blanket, we’ve utilized 5 plates of yarn, each weighing approximately 100g, featuring adjacent colors that harmonize beautifully. Clear, detailed instructions are provided to help you maximize your yarn usage, ensuring that you utilize every single bit without waste.

Whether you prefer making the blanket with one strand for a lighter touch or opting for the two-strand version for added warmth and texture, this pattern has you covered. Additionally, we offer guidance on how to easily size up the blanket to fit your desired dimensions, allowing you to create a custom piece perfect for your space or as a heartfelt gift.

Explore the unique world of Plötulopi with this easy-to-follow knitting pattern that combines artistry and practicality, perfect for knitters looking to create a stunning and functional piece for their home.
