Pumpkin Fingerless Gloves

$4.16

I've recently had the pleasure of working with Kate Davies Buachaille wool in the delightful shades of Highland Coo and Furze. Each skein weighs 50g, and I have just enough leftover from each color to create a beautiful Fair Isle headband to match my newly knitted gloves. This is my first experience with this type of wool, and I can’t express how pleased I am with its luxurious feel and the stunning finish after blocking the gloves on glove boards. Being crafted from 100% wool, these gloves are wonderfully warm, making them perfect for the chilly autumn months that are fast approaching!

One of the highlights of using Buachaille wool is how quickly it knits up—its thicker texture allows for rapid progress, unlike the finer yarns I typically use for my Fair Isle projects. In fact, this pattern can easily be completed over a weekend! I utilized 3.25mm and 4mm double-pointed needles (DPNs), typically using only three, which is the common practice here in the Shetland Islands when knitting in the round.

This pattern includes two beautifully designed Fair Isle charts: one showcasing the vibrant colors I've chosen, Highland Coo and Furze, and another chart available in classic black and white. Whether you’re a seasoned knitter or just starting out, this headband project offers a fantastic opportunity to hone your skills in Fair Isle knitting while enjoying the beauty of Kate Davies Buachaille wool. So grab your needles, use up those leftovers, and create something special to keep you warm this autumn!
