Quoth
Note: This knitting pattern requires the knitter to work from a chart.
Introducing "Quoth," a captivating knitting pattern that originally debuted as part of Woolgirl’s Poet’s Club—an homage to the renowned Edgar Allan Poe and his haunting poem “The Raven.” Inspired by Poe’s enigmatic ornithological themes, "Quoth" features an intricate elongated stitch pattern that beautifully echoes the feathers of the ominous raven’s wings. Additionally, one can’t help but imagine the quill pen Mr. Poe likely used to craft his timeless verses. This elongated stitch technique enhances the beauty of your chosen variegated yarn, while the pattern is designed to be quick and enjoyable, allowing knitters to complete the hat in no time. This way, you’ll still have plenty of moments to reflect on your lost Lenore... and perhaps even reach out to animal control for some quirky assistance!
The sample shown is knitted using Biscotte & Cie Gobelin (100% Superwash Merino), which adds a luxurious feel to the finished piece. A suggested yarn substitute is provided below to accommodate your preferences and ensure the best results for your own handmade hat.
Important Errata: Please note that the original version of Woolgirl’s "Quoth" pattern contained an error in the chart. Specifically, the double-wrapped knit stitch was incorrectly labeled as a double-yarn-over. Rest assured, there are no double-yarn-overs in this knitting pattern. This error has been corrected in the current version of the pattern, and it is crucial to begin the first instance of the pattern chart (following the set-up chart) starting at row 2. Happy knitting!
With its unique design and rich literary inspiration, the "Quoth" hat is not just a knitting project; it's a tribute to art and creativity that every knitter will want to cherish in their collection!
