Ridge & Furrow Hat and Earband

Introducing the Ridge & Furrow Motif Hat and Earband, inspired by traditional farming techniques. This unique design features a beautiful blend of knits and purls that replicate the charming pattern left by an old-fashioned hand plow in the soil before planting crops. With a personal touch, as my husband hails from a farming background, this hat and earband set is a heartfelt project that celebrates rural heritage!

The pattern is not only simple to follow but also striking, making it easy to memorize as you knit. The Hat design includes an optional Vikkel Braid, providing a wonderful opportunity to learn a delightful one-row sideways braid technique. Not interested in trying the braid? No problem! You can easily leave it out for a cleaner look.

Any worsted weight yarn can be used for this project, but I highly recommend selecting one with excellent stitch definition, like the Frogtree Pediboo yarn showcased in the photos. This will ensure that the Ridge & Furrow pattern stands out beautifully in your finished pieces.

Please note that for the Earband, a US SIZE 4 needle is required to achieve a tighter, more defined fabric with a gauge of 23 stitches per 4 inches. The length of the earband is customizable, but I've included three suggested lengths to suit various preferences.
