Introducing our delightful kids' mitten pattern, originally designed as fingerless gloves, now transformed into true mittens that are warm and perfect for little hands. These mittens are knit at a tighter gauge, ensuring a cozy fit that will keep tiny fingers toasty during chilly days. The central cable panel brings a touch of elegance and is charted only, making it a fun and challenging project for knitters of all skill levels.

Sizes Available: Choose from Toddler, Child Small, or Child Large, fitting hand circumferences of 5 ½ (6, 6 ½)”/ 14 (15, 16 ½) cm, with lengths from wrist to tip measuring 4 ½ (5, 5 ½)”/ 11 ½ (12 ½, 14) cm. This variety ensures a perfect fit for your little ones as they grow!

Gauge: To achieve the ideal look and feel, knit at a gauge of 32 stitches and 40 rounds = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch when worked in the round, after blocking. This helps in making your mittens not only beautiful but also durable and effective for daily wear.

Recommended Yarn: For the best results, we suggest using Tanis Fiber Arts PureWash Fingering, crafted from 100% merino wool (450 yd/113 g), in the stunning Cosmic Night colorway. Alternatively, you may substitute with approximately 90 (130, 175) yards of any high-quality fingering weight yarn you prefer, allowing for creativity and personalization.

Essential Needles: Use a set of US 2/3 mm double-pointed needles (DPNs), two 24”/60 cm circular needles, or one long needle for the magic loop method to match the gauge. Additionally, you'll need a set of US 1/2.25 mm DPNs or circulars, which should be two sizes smaller than your gauge needles, ensuring the perfect snug fit.

Notions Required: Don’t forget to gather essential notions including stitch markers, a cable needle for the intricate cable design, a stitch holder or scrap yarn for any stitches you want to hold, and a yarn needle for finishing your beautiful project. This mitten pattern is not only functional but also serves as a wonderful opportunity to enhance your knitting skills.

With this thoughtful and comprehensive mitten pattern, you can create lovely hand-knit gifts for children that will keep them warm while showcasing your knitting prowess. Perfect for cozy winter days, these mittens make an excellent addition to any child's wardrobe.
