Rondelay
Introducing the stunning **Rondelay Shawl**, a one-skein, reversible garter stitch shawl that is perfect for knitters of all levels. This beautiful design is constructed from three sequential half-rounds, or rondels, which elegantly grow from the cast-on stitches. Utilizing techniques such as short rows and strategically placed radial yarn-over (YO) increases, each rondel builds seamlessly upon the last. The result is a finished semi-circular shape that drapes beautifully around the shoulders, making it an ideal accessory for any outfit.
Rondelay is specifically designed to showcase the colors and patterns of a variegated or hand-dyed skein, creating a unique look that draws attention. However, this versatile shawl also looks fantastic in a solid color, allowing you to personalize it to your taste. It's a perfect project for those looking to enhance their knitting skills while creating a stunning, wearable piece of art.
Techniques & Skills Used: cable cast-on, knit, short rows.
Size: one size; measures 50 inches in length along the top edge and approximately 9 inches in depth at the widest part of the rondel.
Yarn: For this project, we recommend using Malabrigo Yarn Sock, which is composed of 100% superwash merino and offers 440 yards (402m) per 100g skein. You will only need 1 skein to complete this shawl; the sample shown is in the beautiful Indiecita colorway. On average, the sample utilized about 410 yards of light fingering weight yarn, providing enough material to fully explore your creativity.
Other Materials: To achieve the best results, you'll need a US 6 (4mm) 40-inch circular needle or a size that matches your gauge, as well as a yarn needle for finishing touches.
Gauge: Achieve a gauge of 18 stitches and 36 rows per 4 inches in garter stitch after blocking to ensure your shawl has the perfect drape and fit.
With the **Rondelay Shawl pattern**, you’ll create a stunning accessory that'll be a cherished piece for years to come. Perfect for gifting or treating yourself, this pattern allows for endless creative possibilities. Happy knitting!
