Ruth's Shawl
Introducing a beautifully crafted shawl design, perfect for special occasions! This crescent-shaped shawl was thoughtfully designed for my sister to wear at her wedding. We chose the crescent shape for its elegance and versatility, allowing it to complement various outfits and styles. The shawl features a simplistic center, elegantly adorned with a stunning lacy border that showcases the intricate details of the knitting. My inspiration for this design comes from the enchanting nupps and gathered stitches characteristic of Estonian lace knitting, making this piece a true homage to these traditional patterns.
For this sample, I opted for fingering weight yarn, as the unpredictable British weather in September calls for a shawl that is both lightweight and warm. However, the shawl would also look absolutely lovely when crafted from lace weight yarn, providing a delicate and airy feel.
Yarn Suggestions:
- Easyknits Smoke: 100g = 335m / 366yds, require 2 skeins.
- Posh Yarn Eva Lace: 100g = 700m / 765yds, require 1 skein.
If you prefer alternatives, you can substitute with any lace or fingering weight yarn totaling 570m / 625yds. When selecting your yarn, I highly recommend choosing one that will block well, allowing your shawl to exhibit the full beauty of the lace patterning.
Whether you're creating this stunning shawl for a wedding, special event, or just for yourself, it’s sure to become a cherished addition to your wardrobe. Start your knitting journey today and bring this exquisite design to life!
