S Curve Cowl

Introducing the Buttoned Cowl, a delightful knitting pattern designed exclusively for the Shall We Knit? retreat in November 2017. This unique cowl showcases the featured yarn that attendees received in their goodie bags, making it a memorable project for all knitters involved. I had the pleasure of collaborating with local designer Lynne Sosnowski, who created the stunning Benmiller Rendezvous Mitts using the same yarn challenge.

This exquisite cowl is crafted using two fingering weight yarns held together, which creates a beautiful marled effect that adds depth and texture to your finished piece. The sample cowl is knit with the vibrant, hand-painted, speckled yarn known as Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino (KPPPM) alongside the luxurious Filatura Di Crosa Superior, resulting in a soft and sumptuous fabric.

To achieve a striking contrasting trim at the end of the cowl, simply knit with the hand-painted yarn alone. One of the best features of this pattern is its versatility; you can easily adjust the length of the cowl by adding more repeats of the main stitch pattern, allowing you to personalize your accessory to suit your style.

If you're not inclined to knit with the two thinner strands held together, you have the option to substitute with a single worsted weight yarn. For this alternative, you will need 320 meters of a worsted weight yarn that achieves a gauge of approximately 4.75 to 5 stitches per 2.5 cm.

Whether you’re an experienced knitter or just beginning your knitting journey, the Buttoned Cowl is an enjoyable and rewarding project that will keep you warm and stylish throughout the chilly months. Dive into your yarn stash and let your creativity shine with this elegant cowl pattern!
